The Absence of Hope by Sanguine-Sky The Absence of Hope by Sanguine-Sky
So I had a bit of trouble with this drawing. I just didn't know what to do with the background and I asked for suggestions on Tumblr. One of the suggestions was: “Have you thought of making the backround of the asgard palace or have thor and his dad in the backround in an angsty sorta thing?” by cherryblossims, and there was something about an angsty Thor that I really liked so I came up with that. I feel like I must apologize to everyone because all my Loki drawings are drawings filled with Loki feels.

After I was done with the drawing I faced another silly setback: what should I call this drawing? And my sister helped me with that. She suggested "The Absence of Hope", Thor being said hope, and I couldn’t think of a more fitting title! Thor was, indeed, hope for Loki and in this moment, - the moment Loki finds he’s a Frost Giant -, Thor wasn’t there and Odin went into Odinsleep. Loki felt alone, betrayed, unloved. Thor wasn’t there to remind him that he was still his little brother, that it didn’t matter that he was a Frost Giant, that he was still Loki, son of Odin. That’s why I drew Thor in black and white, because he wasn’t really there. It’s true that Loki was to blame for Thor’s banishment but he still loved his brother and he wanted to make it right. He tried to tell Odin what he’d done but was shut down and never had the chance to come clean.

For Loki I used these ref. pics:

For Thor I used this ref. pic:

This drawing was made on Photoshop CS3 with my Wacom tablet.

Thank you so much, and I know... It seems my Loki drawings are always very depressive and I apologize for that ^^; But it's so amazing to explore those unresolved issued of Thor and Loki through drawing... I just can't help myself.
Thank you for the :+fav: too

Not depressive...poor Loki has a most depressing life I think and you are doing a great job bringing it out.  After all, his main problems were Odin and Thor.  I believe he lost the only one to love him when Frigga died. Crying

I truly believe Thor loves Loki. After all they were raised as brothers and Thor was just as surprised to find out Loki wasn't his blood brother as Loki was. Plus Thor never sensed any rivalry towards Loki. He was, and always will be, his little brother. There was no jealousy from Thor's part of the relationship. The jealousy came from Loki and even so he always tried to hide it until the truth came crashing down. Then I guess Loki threw all control out the window and just showed all the repressed emotions. He just didn't do it in the best way. But you have a point there... Frigga was his mother, not by blood, of course, but Loki was hers. She raised Loki as lovingly as possible, while Thor was raised by Odin, and she taught him everything she knew. He did lose one person who had major impact in his life and who loved him dearly. Odin loves him too in his own way, but nothing compared to the love Frigga had for Loki. You can say Loki lost the one person he truly loved. Because the love he felt for Frigga was one without any pain. I mean the fact that she didn't tell him he was adopted pained him, but he could understand her motivations, so he was never angry with her for not telling him. Loki is just tragic and I love him so much. I wish they made some kind of twist in the movies and made his life a little bit better. Some therapy would be nice

This is fantastic!! It is really striking and really hits emotions in me. And the title hits it over the top. Well done!
(And this got me thinking since I have an OC that is named Hope. xD)

Thank you! That was really the intention :D To bring out some kind of emotion on who sees it. I apologized profusely because it seems that all my Loki drawings are sad drawings, but I just love to explore that side. Tom is so great with emotional scenes and those are the ones I really love.

No need to apologize! It does bring out emotion in me when I see it. It is really well gone.
Yes! I admired how he is able to do that with scenes like that.

Yes! I completely agree. The man reason I started liking him was because of how kindly he treats his fans. ^_^

He is an amazing human being! So talented, so humble... I thought people like that didn't exist anymore, but I'm glad I was wrong :aww:
